What We're Doing

We accept used nursery pots for recycling. Bring them by at any time.

This year, for the first time, all nursery plastic, including the rectangular plastic trays and smaller cell paks will be accepted for recycling!

As biodegradable pots made with rice hulls or coir become more common, we'll be looking to growers who use these materials for their pots.

We suggest low impact solutions to horticultural problems. We've always been believers in the power of building healthy soil to reduce the likelihood of disease or pest problems in plants. Whenever possible, we recommend natural and common sense approaches to plant health rather than relying on synthetics and petroleum based products.

For the most part, we water plants at the nursery by hand. This puts most all the water where it needs to be, in the root zone, rather than on the ground. This becomes even more important when fertilizer solution is added to our watering regime. We are able to minimize the amount of nitrogen and phosphorus that works its way into the ground.

We buy preferentially from vendors who practice sustainability. As concern for the environment becomes an increasingly important factor in how businesses do business, we'll look to support others who share this philosophy.
